BECOME A JESUIT

In all places, in all ministries, Jesuit priests and brothers strive to be “men for others.”

For more than 450 years, Jesuit priests and brothers have lived an amazing story of serving the Church in new and unexpected ways. Now serving in 112 nations on six continents, Jesuits number about 16,000 priests, brothers and seminarians worldwide. Jesuits work in a wide variety of roles including teacher, doctor, poet, lawyer, social worker, writer, administrator, professor, pastor, scientist and artist.

Meet our novices

The first stage of Jesuit formation, the novitiate is a two-year experience of prayer, community living and apostolic service as men start their journey in the Society of Jesus. The novitiate of the U.S. Central and Southern Province is located in southern Louisiana.

Our Men in Active Ministry

Unlike Jesuit formation that follows a specific path, how Jesuits work in the world varies greatly. Embodying the spirit of going where the need is the greatest, Jesuits listen deeply for God’s call and go where they are sent.

Our Men in formation

The various elements of Jesuit training emerge from the experiences and life of St. Ignatius Loyola. The length of Jesuit formation is approximately 11 years; it varies depending on one’s background and course of studies.

Come & See Weekends

The Jesuit men in formation invite discerners to spend a weekend with young Jesuits as they live their ministries. Come and see what the everyday life of a Jesuit is like in person.

Pray for vocations

Father,

In the name of Jesus
Through the power of your Holy Spirit,
I pray that you inflame the hearts of many
With courage and trust
And the desire to labor for your kingdom
In the Society of Jesus.

St. Ignatius and all Your saints,
To bless the Society of Jesus and allreligious congregations
With bountiful vocations that they may continue to serve your Church with passion and zeal.

I ask through the intercession of Mary our Mother,

May Your will be done.

Amen
