Fr. John W. Padberg, SJ

Biography:

Father John Padberg, SJ, was an internationally recognized scholar and author. He was for 28 years director and editor of the Institute of Jesuit Sources in St. Louis, overseeing the publication of more than 100 works about the history and spirituality of the Society of Jesus.    From 1975 to 1985, Fr. Padberg served as president of Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Mass. He also served as the editor of Studies in the Spirituality of Jesuits from 1986-2002, and as founding chairman of the National Seminar on Jesuit Higher Education. Fr. Padberg has lectured extensively about the history and spirituality of the Society of Jesus and Jesuit education.    In addition to being a noted speaker, Fr. Padberg is known for his written works, which have been widely read and revered.    Fr. Padberg was born in St. Louis and entered the Society of Jesus in 1944.  He died on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, 2021. View his obituary here
