May 10, 2022 – Saint Louis University High School bestowed its highest honor on Dr. H. Eric Clark, president of Loyola Academy of St. Louis. Clark, a 1983 graduate of SLUH, is the 2022 recipient of the Backer Award, SLUH’s highest honor, which recognizes a distinguished alumnus who exudes the school’s mission and principles of Jesuit education.

As the president of Loyola Academy of St. Louis, Dr. Clark has oversight of strategic initiatives, maintains community and corporate partnerships, and procures resources to fulfill programmatic and operational objectives.

Through his 14 years of developing and cultivating students into men for others, he has earned the respect and affection of the faculty, staff, students, parents, alumni, board of trustees and volunteers at the school.

Active in the community, Dr. Clark is a member of Saint Louis University High School’s Board of Trustees, Plancorp Financial Client Advisory Board, Nativity Miquel Coalition Board Vianney High School Diversity Committee, Enterprise Bank and Trust Company Advisory Board and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

Dr. Clark served as a highly regarded member of SLUH’s administration for nearly 16 years, serving in key roles to develop students who prioritize lives of service, community building, spiritual growth, and professional achievement. His roles included: Administrative Coordinator for the Minority Action Plan, Psychology Teacher, Summer School Principal, Assistant Principal for Student Affairs and Dean of Students.

Throughout his career, Clark has been applauded as an exceptional leader and educator, receiving awards from The St. Louis American’s Salute to Excellence in Education, St. Louis County NAACP’s Youth Council, St. Charles Lwanga Center, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. Alumni Chapter.

Dr. Clark earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from University of Missouri St. Louis, as well as a Master of Arts in Psychology and Industrial/Organizational Relations. He earned another M.A. degree from Saint Louis University in Education and Educational Administration, in addition to a Doctorate in Educational Leadership.

Dr. Clark and his beloved wife of 32 years, Anjie, have a son, Cameron, and are members of St. Elizabeth, Mother of John the Baptist Catholic Church.
