Praying for the dead is an ancient Christian practice. We offer gratitude for their presence in our lives and ask that they may experience the eternal joy of God’s presence. With the approach of the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed on Nov. 2, friends of the Jesuits USA Central and Southern Province are invited to send the names of their deceased loved ones so that the Jesuits of this province might pray for them.

God our Creator,
Through your power and love, you brought our loved ones to life.
In your mercy, may you grant them new life with you in Heaven.Jesus our Brother,
You wept at the death of your friend Lazarus;
Console those of us who mourn the loss of loved ones.Lord God,
I know that those who die still live in your presence;
their lives change but do not end.I pray in hope for my family,
relatives and friends,
and for those who have no one to pray for them.Grant them eternal rest, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon them.
May they rest in peace.Amen.
