Father John (Jack) Warner, SJ, is celebrating 50 years as a priest in 2024. Most of his more than 60 years of Jesuit ministry were spent serving the people of Honduras. He is the founder of the Teatro La Fragua theater company at the Yoro Mission in El Progreso, Yoro, Honduras, and served as director for 42 years, from 1979 to 2021.
Raised in St. Louis, Fr. Warner entered the St. Stanislaus Seminary in Florissant, Missouri, in 1962. He did his first studies at Saint Louis University, earning a Bachelor of Philosophy in 1968. Fr. Warner was ordained a priest in 1974 at St. Francis Xavier College Church. He professed his final vows in El Progreso in 1986.
Shortly thereafter, he enrolled in Chicago’s Goodman School of Drama, where he graduated in 1978 with a Master of Fine Arts (with a focus on directing).
Since 2021 he has served as a pastoral minister at the Jesuit Hall Community at Saint Louis University and now at St. Ignatius Hall, a community of senior Jesuits in Florissant, Missouri.
