Joseph Nasser, SJ

Fr. Joseph Nasser, SJ, who has long served in retreat and spirituality ministry, in 2025 celebrates the 50th anniversary of his priestly ordination.

Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, Fr. Nasser was educated at Jesuit High School. Following graduation, he entered the Society of Jesus at St. Charles College in Grand Coteau, Louisiana, in 1963.

Father Nasser served his regency at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory School in Houston and Jesuit College Preparatory School in Dallas. After earning his Master of Divinity from Regis College in Toronto in 1975, he was ordained a priest in Shreveport. Following ordination, Fr. Nasser served as chaplain and counselor supporting the retreat programs at Strake Jesuit College Preparatory in Houston and Jesuit High School in Shreveport.

Father Nasser’s presence at retreat houses in the former New Orleans province began in 1980, when he became the general manager of Our Lady of the Oaks Retreat House in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. In 1985, he moved to Maryhill Retreat House in Pinehill, Louisiana for three years, and then to Montserrat Jesuit Retreat House at Lake Dallas, Texas, until 1990. He then spent four years at Manresa House of Retreats in Convent, Louisiana.

Father Nasser pronounced final vows in the Society of Jesus in 1994.

In 1994, Fr. Nasser was missioned to St. Ignatius Loyola Parish in Spring, Texas, a suburb of Houston, as associate pastor. He was made pastor of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, the Jesuit-run parish in Grand Coteau, Louisiana, in 2002. From 2005 to 2014, he returned to Texas, where he served at St. Pius I Church in Hemphill as parish administrator, and then as pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish in Jefferson, Texas, from 2014 to 2018.

Since 2018, Fr. Nasser has resided at the St. Alphonsus Rodriguez Pavilion in Grand Coteau, where he serves as a pastoral and spiritual minister and is assigned to a ministry of prayer for the Church and the Society of Jesus.
