This Thanksgiving, Fr. Aric Serrano, SJ, speaks for all the Jesuits in the USA Central and Southern Province when he expresses his gratitude for you – for your prayers and charitable support, and for the way you share in our mission to bring souls to God.
Father Serrano lives the Jesuit mission to bring souls to God in an extraordinary way. He is assigned to St. Peter Claver, a Jesuit parish in the southernmost part of Belize, home to mountains, rainforests and remote communities.
Alongside Pastor Matt Ruhl, SJ, and Jesuit Regent Fr. Max Landman, SJ, he helps to meet the sacramental and pastoral needs of Catholics in 34 small communities scattered over 550 square miles!
These village churches serve people of diverse cultures – Garifuna, Ke’kchi, Mopan, Creole and Hispanic – and the 29 parish schools educate more than 5,200 students. That’s about 72% of the student population in the Toledo District. The needs are tremendous, and the work can be exhausting at times, but it is both vital and fulfilling.
Dozens of lay ministers work alongside Frs. Serrano, Ruhl and Landman, and we thank God for them. Their gifts of time and talent contribute to the success of the mission. Your prayers and financial contributions are just as necessary. We cannot continue this important work without you. Thank you!
All funds received on Tuesday, Dec. 3 – Giving Tuesday – will benefit Jesuits in formation, like Frs. Serrano and Landman. If you feel called to support our work financially, please visit bit.ly/giving-tuesday-2024 to donate.Â
