New Leadership at Province Retreat Houses

November 10, 2025
Fr. Richard Hermes, SJ

Two retreat houses in the Jesuits USA Central and Southern Province have welcomed new leaders. Father Richard C. Hermes, SJ, is the new executive director at White House Retreat in St. Louis, and Fr. Joseph W. Laramie, SJ, is the director of Sacred Heart Jesuit Retreat House in Sedalia, Colorado.

Father Hermes begins his new ministry at White House after more than 16 years as president of Jesuit High School in Tampa, Florida – the longest tenure of any president at the school. Originally from Shreveport, Louisiana, he studied Sacred Scripture at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome and theology at the Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Fr. Joe Laramie, SJ

Father Laramie is a native St. Louisan who previously served at White House Retreat. His most recent assignment was as the national director of the Pope’s Worldwide Prayer Network. The author of Love Him Evermore and Abide in the Heart of Christ, his theology degrees are from Boston College.
