Support Urgently Needed Following U.S. Foreign Aid Suspension

February 14, 2025

The U.S. government’s announcement of an immediate suspension of foreign aid spending on January 24, 2025, has disrupted critical programs in communities across the globe, including those led by Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) and Fe y Alegría.

As a result, over 120,000 individuals in Fe y Alegría and JRS programs in places such as Chad, El Salvador and South Sudan are affected, with $23 million in aid now paused.

In response to this great need, JRS/USA and American Jesuits International (AJI) are making an urgent appeal for support. In order to address the immediate impact of the U.S. foreign aid pause on Jesuit programs, these organizations must raise $2 million immediately to continue serving the poor and vulnerable around the world.

“In times of crisis, our response must reflect the Gospel’s call to generosity: ‘For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you’ (Luke 6:38). Jesuit ministries embody this spirit of cura personalis – caring for the whole person – and now, more than ever, we are called to extend that care to those in greatest need.”

—  Fr. Brian Paulson, SJ, president of the Jesuit Conference of Canada and the United States.
